The iterated Prisoner's Dilemma in societies of deterministic players

چکیده
Two players engaged in the Prisoner’s Dilemma have to choose between cooperation and defection, the pay-off of the players is determined by a weight w=(T ,R ,P ,S ) . For deterministic strategies p 1 ,... , p n we consider a society S=S( u i : p i∣ i=1 ,... ,n) formed by individuals playing at random the IPD with weight w . We introduce the concept of a w -successful society as one where all individuals have eventually a non-negative pay-off. We discuss success of individuals and societies by means of quadratic forms associated to the pay-off matrix of the given set of strategies.

Trust in an N-Player Iterated Prisoner's Dilemma
The iterated Prisoner's Dilemma (iPD) is a standard problem for the evolution of cooperation. Published work so far dealt mainly with the 2-player case, which is neither very realistic nor very relevant for applications , as societies, in a general sense, usually are made of more than two agents. We present novel results where cooperation co-evolves with trust in an N-player iPD. In doing so, t...
متن کاملA forgiving strategy for the Iterated Prisoner's Dilemma
This paper reports results obtained with a strategy for the Iterated Prisoner’s Dilemma. The paper describes a strategy that tries to incorporate a technique to forgive strategies that have defected or retaliated, in the hope of (re-)establishing cooperation. The strategy is compared to well-known strategies in the domain and results presented. The initial findings, as well as echoing past find...
متن کاملSmale Strategies For The N-Person Iterated Prisoner's Dilemma
Adapting methods introduced by Steven Smale, we describe good strategies for a symmetric version of the Iterated Prisoner’s Dilemma with n players.
متن کاملExploitation and peacekeeping: introducing more sophisticated interactions to the iterated prisoner’s dilemma
We present a new paradigm extending the Iterated Prisoner's Dilemma to multiple players. Our model is unique in granting players information about past interactions between all pairs of players – allowing for much more sophisticated social behaviour. We provide an overview of preliminary results and discuss the implications in terms of the evolutionary dynamics of strategies.
متن کاملWorking memory constrains human cooperation in the Prisoner's Dilemma.
Many problems in human society reflect the inability of selfish parties to cooperate. The "Iterated Prisoner's Dilemma" has been used widely as a model for the evolution of cooperation in societies. Axelrod's computer tournaments and the extensive simulations of evolution by Nowak and Sigmund and others have shown that natural selection can favor cooperative strategies in the Prisoner's Dilemma...
